Seven chamois from Austria were released near Aoraki Mt Cook in 1907, and soon spread over New Zealand high country. In 1973 the Forest Research Institute started a research programme to study the movements of chamois, their breeding habits and family life in summer and winter. The study area was Basin Creek in the Harper Avoca valley. This film looks at the research programme and how the scientists had to adapt to working in the harsh and rugged alpine country.
